Alongside an ongoing cultural shift towards STEM practices (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) there is a myth cultivating that these forms of making are objective, or some reflection of an unbiased truth. sad topology is an attempt to draw out an emotional quality from technical things by examining the interconnectedness of nature, human, and machine. The works incorporate video, sound, and sculptural elements that combine organic and synthetic detritus collected from the urban parklands of the inner north. There is a unique network of infrastructure, waste, and flora present withing these landscapes that for me, elicits an emotional response.

In mathematics, topology is preserved through stretching bending and folding geometries and it is changed through, cutting, drilling and splitting them. In information sciences it is the way things are connected or networked. More broadly topology is used to describe the essence of a system or thing. I am wondering whether it can be used to describe us. As in the way we are networked or our bodies and emotions. How many knots we have or holes punched. How we form new relationships or the ways we become disconnected.
